Emergency Medical
Responder Program
This program has been recently
added and does not appear in the current MESC Course Catalogue.
The Manitoba Emergency Services College will be
offering a six week 180 hour, Emergency Medical Responder program.
Upon
successful completion of the course, individuals will be certified
and qualify for Manitoba's provincial licensure examination at the
"Technician" level.
Emergency Medical Responders are trained to respond
to and provide emergency medical care in a variety of situations
often as the first on scene, providing initial medical care to the
ill or injured. Individuals may also represent a wide variety of
roles: ambulance attendant, firefighter, law enforcement officer,
and/or rescue team member. As pre-hospital care providers, the EMRs
efforts may greatly affect the patients final outcome.
Target group
This course is designed as a basic entry level training in
emergency medical care; it may be considered a foundation for
further training within emergency services: EMS, fire, and/or
rescue.
Course
description The course is designed to
train participants, already familiar with some aspects of first aid
and CPR, in the principles and techniques for providing emergency
medical care. The emphasis is on practical skills development.
Approximately seventy-five percent of this course is devoted to the
actual "hands-on" experiences involved in patient assessment and
management. Traditionally, this training has been considered the
entry level to emergency,
Participant prerequisites
candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a current
Health Care Provider (HCP) CPR certificate (In some situations,
Basic Rescuer or Level C CPR certificates may be considered.) An
