MANITOBA BUILDING CODES

  • The Manitoba Building Code has been adopted as a regulation (127/06) (Manitoba amendment) under the Buildings & Mobile Homes Act.
  • The Manitoba Building Code is a set of minimum requirements intended to protect health, safety and structural sufficiency in buildings. It deals with new construction, including additions and major alterations. It is intended to apply to high rise and low rise buildings used for residential, business, mercantile, industrial and assembly occupancies.
  • The Manitoba Building Code is made up of 10 parts:
    • Part 1: Scope & Definitions
    • Part 2: General Requirements
    • Part 3: Fire Protection, Occupant safety & Accessibility
    • Part 4: Structural design
    • Part 5: Environmental Separation
    • Part 6: Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning
    • Part 8: Safety Measures at Construction & Demolition Sites
    • Part 9: Housing & Small Buildings
    • Part 10: Special Construction Standard - Private Pools

      Note:
      Part 3 & 4: These parts of the Code require professional design
      Part 9: Is generally written in prescriptive terms
