The Manitoba Emergency Service College offers 11 courses for persons in the construction industry that use the Building Code such as building inspectors, municipal officials and the insurance industry. Ten of the courses are part of the Building Inspector certification program in Manitoba. Course descriptions and building inspector certification details are as follows:

Level One - Part 9 buildings, generally described as buildings not exceeding 600 m2 in area and three storeys or less in building height and or building classifications as described in the Manitoba Building Code.

  • Part 9: The House-Building Structure
    exterior requirements for single and two family dwellings
  • Part 9: The House-Health & Safety
    interior requirements for single and two family dwellings
  • Part 9: Building Plumbing Inspection
    plumbing requirements for Part 9 buildings
  • Wood Heat Safety
    requirements for approved and non-approved solid-fuel burning appliances
  • Municipal Building By-Law Administration
    Acts and Regulations, powers of a Building Inspector, legal responsibilities, liabilities, issuing orders and preparing for court

Level Two - Part 9 buildings other than single and two-family dwellings

  • Part 9: Buildings-Structural Requirements

  • Part 9: Buildings-HVAC & Fire Protection
    interior requirements for Part 9 buildings other than single and two family dwellings

Level Three - Part 3 generally described as buildings exceeding 600 m2 in area and more than three storeys in building height and or building classifications as described in the Manitoba Building Code

  • Part 3: Large Buildings-Classification & Construction
    first in the series of requirements of Part 3 buildings
  • Part 3: Large Buildings-Health & Safety Requirements
    second in the series of requirements of Part 3 buildings
  • Part 3: Large Buildings-Life Safety Systems
    specific Life Safety Systems in Part 3 buildings

Introduction to Wood Heat Safety Seminar
designed for members of the insurance industry who are dealing with risk assessment of solid-fuel burning appliances
