Inspection and Technical Services Manitoba

Inspection and Technical Services is a newly formed division of the Office of the Fire Commissioner. Manitoba Labour's Mechanical and Engineering Branch and the OFC's Codes and Standards section have amalgamated to provide a single-window for engineering and technical safety services when evaluating permit applications or new projects, making the process simpler for builders and contractors.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner - Inspection and Technical Services Manitoba is the Manitoba Government agency responsible for:

  • Developing of new and ammending existing Manitoba Building, Plumbing, and Fire Code requirements
  • Examining building plans for code compliance
  • Issuing building and occupancy permits
  • Inspecting buildings, mobile homes, and recreational vehicles
  • Providing support to the Manitoba Building Standards Board
  • Building permits and inspections;
  • Plumbing permits and inspections;
  • Fire inspections;
  • Boiler, pressure vessel and refrigeration plant inspections;
  • Gas and oil-fired equipment inspections and permits;
  • Electrical application inspections;
  • Elevator and amusement ride inspections;
  • Licensing of power engineers, welders, gas fitters and electricians;
  • Quality assurance reviews of certain engineering plans and decisions; and
  • Quality assurance program reviews for pressure equipment, pressure piping manufacturing and installation.
